Rawalpindi Ring Road: Route, Interchanges, Opening and What Buyers Should Check
Rawalpindi Ring Road in October 2026: the 38.3 km route, its four interchanges, the Thalian link still to come, and RDA checks before you buy near it.
In short
Length: 38.3 km, from Banth on the GT Road to the motorway at Thalian. Built: the main route and four interchanges, at Banth, Chak Beli Khan, Adiala and Chakri (Tribune; ProPakistani, 22 October). Still to come: the broad-based interchange at Thalian. Until it is built, the road joins the motorway at Thalian without an interchange. Opening: not yet. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was expected to open it on 28 October, but ProPakistani reported that day that the opening had been "postponed for the sixth time". The Rawalpindi commissioner wants it "fully opened to traffic in November". Before you buy: on RDA's own lists, entries whose location names Chakri include 131 on the illegal list and 4 on the approved list. Check any scheme first.
The Rawalpindi Ring Road is a 38.3 km road from Banth on the GT Road to the motorway at Thalian. The main road and four interchanges are complete, but the opening expected on 28 October 2026 has been postponed again, and officials now point to November. Societies along its route already advertise "Ring Road access". This guide sets out what has been built, what is still to come, and how to check a scheme near it before you buy.
This is a dated status post. The facts below are from reports of 20 to 28 October 2026, and the scheme counts are from RDA's own lists, checked on 28 October. We will update it when the road opens.
What has been built
The Express Tribune and ProPakistani report that the 38.3 km project "has been completed along its main route", including "four interchanges at Banth, Chak Beli Khan, Adiala and Chakri". The Tribune said the tolling booths were expected to be installed before the opening. The Nation, citing Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) sources, said the main route under Package 1 was fully complete and that work on the tolling infrastructure under Package 2 was moving quickly.
| Status, late October 2026 | |
|---|---|
| Length | 38.3 km |
| Start | Banth Interchange, GT Road |
| Interchanges built | Banth, Chak Beli Khan, Adiala, Chakri |
| Thalian | Broad-based interchange to be built later; joined to the motorway without an interchange for now |
| Cost | Third revised PC-I of Rs50.4 billion approved, including the Thalian interchange |
| Tolling | Tolling system transferred to the Punjab Ring Road Authority (PRRA) |
What is still to come
The Thalian interchange matters for anyone counting on a direct motorway connection. Reports say it "will be completed at a later stage", and that the road "has been connected to the motorway route at Thalian without an interchange" for now.
Update, 28 October: the opening did not go ahead as expected. ProPakistani reported that it had been "postponed for the sixth time", with toll booths, the Intelligent Transportation System and electronic toll collection still "awaiting completion". Dawn reported on 20 October that toll plaza construction "still remains incomplete", and quoted Deputy Project Director Ashfaq Sulheri as saying the Punjab government "will open the road to traffic in the first or second week of November".
No toll rates had been published in the reports we read. Check the PRRA's notices once the road opens.
What it means for buyers
The road brings the Adiala, Chakri and Chak Beli Khan areas closer to the GT Road and the motorway. That is why so many schemes along it now advertise access. But access says nothing about whether a scheme is approved.
RDA publishes two lists, and our housing scheme checker carries both, as RDA wrote them. Counting the entries whose location names a road near the Ring Road (RDA's lists, checked on 28 October 2026):
| Location named in RDA's entry | On RDA's illegal list | On RDA's approved list |
|---|---|---|
| Chakri | 131 | 4 |
| Adyala (Adiala) | 44 | 3 |
| Chak Beli | 29 | 1 |
| GT Road | 34 | 0 |
These are counts of list entries by the location RDA gives, not a survey of every scheme on the ground. RDA's notice above its lists also says that updated information on societies approved by PHATA "should be obtained from PHATA directly".
Before you buy near the Ring Road: four checks
- Search the scheme in the housing scheme checker, which shows RDA's lists with RDA's own wording and the date we checked them. A scheme that appears on neither list is simply not listed: ask RDA.
- Check the block. Approval is for an approved layout. Ask for the approved layout plan and check that your plot is on it.
- Check the land record. In Punjab, get the fard or the PLRA record for the land in the seller's name. See our guide to the online fard in Punjab.
- Ignore "Ring Road facing" claims until you can see the access road on the ground. A scheme near the road is not the same as a scheme with its own link to an interchange.
