Marla, kanal, acre and square feet converter

Convert a plot or a piece of land between marla, kanal, acre, square feet and square yards, with the options of the Punjab Land Records Authority's own area calculator.

A marla is not the same size everywhere, so pick the size your documents use. The options are PLRA's, checked on 30 October 2026.

Your land

Size of a marla

PLRA's calculator offers a marla of 272 or 225 sq ft and starts on 272. That is its default, not the size for your area: LDA's regulations, for example, give 225 sq ft for Lahore District. The allotment letter, site plan or registry says which one your plot uses. If it uses a 272.25 sq ft marla, enter the area in square feet.

What LDA's regulations say about the marla, kanal and acre

On these settings an acre is 43,520 sq ft. The international acre is 43,560 sq ft.

Rounded to 4 decimal places, as PLRA's calculator does.

How it works

PLRA's Area Calculator, the Calculate Land Area button on the Property DC Valuation page of the Punjab e-stamp portal, counts 20 marla to a kanal and offers a marla of 272 or 225 sq ft and an acre of 8 kanal, 9 kanal 13 marla or 9 kanal 16 marla. This converter uses the same options, defaults and rounding. It adds square yards (9 sq ft each, the standard conversion), the reading in kanal and marla, and the same area on the other marla size, which PLRA's calculator doesn't show.

As in PLRA's calculator, an acre turns into square feet through its kanals and marlas, so its size in square feet depends on both choices. Only some pairs come close to the international acre of 43,560 sq ft: 8 kanal of 272 sq ft marlas is 43,520 sq ft, and 9 kanal 13 marla of 225 sq ft marlas is 43,425 sq ft. Others don't: 9 kanal 13 marla of 272 sq ft marlas is 52,496 sq ft, and 8 kanal of 225 sq ft marlas is 36,000. The result card shows the acre your settings give.

The marla itself varies. LDA's regulations, quoted in our glossary, give 225 sq ft in Lahore District and 272 sq ft in other districts of Punjab, and a 272.25 sq ft marla is also in common use; PLRA's calculator offers 272. The area in square feet on the allotment letter, site plan or registry settles it.
